Our Mission
Our goal is to build a statewide network of compassionate people, volunteers, schools, businesses, veterinarians, rescue partners, and community organizations working together to improve the lives of cats across Minnesota. Through education, resource sharing, care package programs, volunteer service projects, and community partnerships, we strive to ensure that every person knows where to turn for trusted guidance and meaningful support when a cat is in need.
Felidae Friends of Minnesota exists to build a more compassionate future for cats by empowering people with knowledge, resources, and opportunities to make a difference—one act of kindness, one family, and one paw at a time.

The Founding Babies:Â The Story Behind Felidae Friends of Minnesota
Sometimes the smallest lives can inspire the biggest changes.
Felidae Friends of Minnesota was born from the story of two tiny kittens named Socks and Salami.
Â
When they were discovered, they were the only survivors of a devastating attack that had claimed the lives of their littermates. Orphaned at just three weeks old and without the care of their feral mother, their chances of survival were uncertain. Their mother remained beyond reach despite repeated attempts to rescue her, leaving Socks and Salami dependent on human intervention for every aspect of their care.
Â
What followed was a journey defined by perseverance, dedication, and hope.
Â
The kittens required constant attention. They refused to take bottles, making every feeding a challenge. Instead, they had to be carefully syringe-fed around the clock to ensure they received the nourishment they needed. As if that weren't enough, both kittens developed eye infections and stomach infections that required ongoing treatment, medication, monitoring, and countless hours of hands-on care.
Â
There were sleepless nights, moments of worry, and setbacks along the way. Every ounce gained, every successful feeding, and every sign of improvement felt like a victory.
Â
Yet through every challenge, Socks and Salami continued to fight.
Their resilience was remarkable. Despite the hardships they had already endured, they slowly began to heal. Their eyes cleared. Their infections resolved. Their strength returned. Day by day, the fragile orphaned kittens transformed into healthy, playful, thriving cats.
Â
Watching their recovery was more than just a rescue success story—it became a powerful reminder of what can happen when compassion is paired with action.
Â
Their journey inspired the creation of Felidae Friends of Minnesota.
What began as a commitment to save two vulnerable kittens grew into a larger mission: helping cats and kittens throughout Minnesota by supporting rescue efforts, promoting Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, encouraging fostering, connecting people with resources, and advocating for the welfare of community cats.
Socks and Salami's story demonstrated that saving lives often requires patience, sacrifice, and determination. It also showed that even when circumstances seem overwhelming, positive outcomes are possible when someone is willing to step forward and help.
Today, Felidae Friends of Minnesota is built on the same principles that guided those early weeks of care: compassion, perseverance, responsibility, and hope.
Â
Every cat has a story. Every life has value. Every act of kindness matters.
Â
Socks and Salami may have inspired the beginning of this journey, but their story continues to motivate the mission every day. Their recovery serves as a reminder that even in the face of tremendous hardship, lives can be transformed through dedication, care, and the willingness to never give up.
Because sometimes saving two tiny kittens can inspire a mission to help countless more.

Organizational Overview

Felidae Friends of Minnesota is a community-based feline welfare initiative dedicated to improving the lives of cats and kittens throughout Pierz Minnesota, and surrounding rural communities. Founded out of a need for humane, practical solutions to feline overpopulation and limited access to veterinary care, the organization operates as a collaborative support network focused on connection, compassion, and long-term impact.
Â
Felidae Friends of Minnesota is not a shelter or traditional intake facility. Instead, we function as a coordination and support network that brings together volunteers, caregivers, veterinary partners, rescues, foster homes, and community members to address feline welfare needs in a unified and sustainable way.
Â
We focus on building relationships between existing resources and filling critical gaps in care where they exist.

The organization was inspired by the rescue of two orphaned kittens, Socks and Salami, who were found in critical condition at approximately three weeks old after losing their litter and mother. Despite severe illness and extremely fragile health, they survived through intensive care, patience, and compassion.
Their recovery became a turning point—highlighting not only the vulnerability of kittens in rural and unmanaged environments, but also the profound difference that coordinated care and intervention can make. Their story became the foundation for Felidae Friends of Minnesota and continues to guide our mission today.
Â
What We Do
Â
Felidae Friends of Minnesota focuses on four core areas of support:
Â
~Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Coordination~ Facilitating humane population management through trapping, sterilization, vaccination, and return of community cats.
Â
~Foster and Adoption Support~
Assisting with placement, care, and adoption pathways for socialized cats and kittens.
Â
~Community Cat and Rural Assistance~
Supporting caretakers of outdoor, farm, and community cats through resources, education, and supply coordination.
Â
~Networking and Resource Connection~
Linking veterinary clinics, rescues, fosters, and community members to improve access to care and streamline support systems.
Â
Our Approach
Â
We believe that sustainable animal welfare solutions are built through:
Â
-
Collaboration instead of isolation
-
Prevention instead of repeated crisis response
-
Education alongside action
-
Community involvement at every level
-
Humane treatment of all animals, regardless of origin or circumstance
Â
Our role is to strengthen and support the existing animal welfare ecosystem, not replace it.
Â
While our work is centered in Pierz, Minnesota, our support network extends throughout surrounding rural and semi-rural communities where access to veterinary care, rescue services, and animal welfare resources may be limited.
Â
Our Values
Â
Compassion~Every life has value, and every animal deserves dignity and care.
Â
Collaboration~Meaningful change happens when organizations and individuals work together.
Â
Responsibility~We promote humane, practical, and sustainable solutions.
Â
Education~Knowledge empowers communities to make informed, compassionate decisions.
Â
Integrity~We operate with transparency, respect, and accountability.
Â
Â

We envision a community where:
Â
-
Feral and stray cat populations are humanely managed through consistent TNR efforts
 -
Rural and urban caregivers have access to affordable resources and support
 -
Rescue organizations and veterinary clinics are connected through strong partnerships
 -
Fewer animals enter crisis situations due to prevention and education
 -
Communities work together to create lasting, measurable improvements in animal welfare
Â

Felidae Friends of Minnesota exists to bridge gaps, build partnerships, and support both animals and the people who care for them. Through coordinated effort and shared responsibility, we believe it is possible to create a more humane and sustainable future for cats and kittens across Minnesota.
